| - i was expecting this place to be so awesome, it's a huge building that looks like there's so much to see.
when we got there and walked up into the whole area, it smelled horrible. like sewer and dead fish.
there's a circle of places inside the area to do like a juice bar place, a rocky mountain chocolate factory, there's a snack bar (with not many options unless you like hot dogs) and an arcade. they're going to add more i guess but this is what was there when i went today. the aquarium itself was the part that was really a let down. it's cool when you walk in and they put a lot of detail into the place but honestly, there's not a whole lot to do. i'd much rather go to the aquarium of the pacific in california just to compare the two or even the wildlife world zoo. i feel like they need to add more sea life and more interactive things for adults to do. there's a few things for kids but the touch pool wasn't even interesting either.
one sad thing i should mention is that the water for the animals was so dirty. it makes you feel bad that they got taken away from wherever they came from just to live in very unclear, foggy, dirty and murky water. it makes you want to cry (if you love animals like i do)
i should also add that i've seen MUCH bigger penguin exhibits too. it doesn't seem like they care much about the animals and their happiness and comfort. like this place is pretty huge and they decided to give some of these animals way less room than they deserve. ALSO the coral is fake. there's not a lot for the fish to swim with like plants or anything. some were just literally rocks at the bottom of like a ten foot tank. that's a little ridiculous. yes, fish are just fish but they're still living creatures- at least give them plants in their tanks. it's the least you can do since they're not in their real home anymore. instead they're living here in a dirty, crammed and sad excuse for an aquarium. the saddest part to me was they rescued a few animals but then stuck them in nasty ass water. like really??? Arizona gets ONE exciting thing to do and THIS is what we get?? the animals don't deserve it, and neither do we. we should be looking at animals that are WELL taken care of and HAPPY. instead you just feel bad for them. (if you're knowledgeable and educated at all on how animals should be taken care of you'll feel bad). this place should either just give up and close down and let the animals live somewhere much cleaner and better or improve EVERYTHING. i hate to be so harsh but this was a huuuuuge disappointment. i just want everybody reading my review to be aware of what this place was like............ carrying on......
some areas were really crowded as well- they stuck a stroller parking spot in the freaking middle of seeing fish and waiting in line for the carousel room. that's not ideal at all. they could've added more room for that for how big the building is. so if you have a stroller, know that there's not a lot of room to walk and there's not much space to leave your stroller- because it's in a tiny little hallway looking area.
the part that made me a little irritated was when we first got to the aquarium they MADE us take three photos posing how the girl told us to and then at the very end of your visit you can buy them. it should be optional to take photos or not. they didn't even ask us. she just made us stand in front of a green screen and pose. if they ever decide to give people the option, they should tell people how much they'll charge for the photos. because they didn't tell us that either. the gift shop is very overpriced too. i wanted to buy my niece a little snow globe like a tiny one that fits the palm of the hand but it's 13 dollars... the bathroom was one of the most interesting things there, instead of mirrors in front of the sink counter, it's the shark tank and you see them swimming around. it's there in both the women's and men's. theres a cool little room where it goes around in a full circle where you get to see the sea turtles and sea lions, but that's the ONLY way you get to see them. you have to go in the carousel room. it's just a little odd. another thing is, is if you finish looking at one area and move on to the next "exhibit" i guess you could call it, you can't go back. like we wanted to revisit the otters because when we saw them they were all sleeping but we had finished and couldn't go back down. i'm not sure if you're allowed to re-enter but you should at least have the option.
i just feel like, for the money, (overpriced) it was not worth it. maybe go to the butterfly place instead. that's a lot better. but be warned, the whole area smells bad.
