I will fully admit that I trekked for 40 minutes to try and #instagram their social media famous cake batter cones - I wasn't going to walk away from this place without it. While I intended to get a cake batter cone regardless of price, I was surprised by how pricey they are ($2 extra), seeing as a single scoop is already $5. Alas, it had to be done. #doitforthegram
To celebrate Canada 150, they have two limited edition flavours - nanaimo bar and butter tart. I had the nanaimo bar in a red velvet cone. I love the crunchiness and cool texturing on the cone itself, and I felt like the cone did taste sorta red velvety...but I feel like half the appeal of red velvet cake is the cream cheese frosting (maybe this can be a future add on?).
At first, the ice cream seemed to lack any distinct nanaimo bar flavour. I expected it to taste more custardy and coconutty, but it kind of tasted like plain vanilla with chunks of cookie/brownie in it. I am a bit disappointed with this flavour, although it grew on me a bit more by the time I was close to finishing the cone.
I tried a bit of the wildflower vanilla off the bf's cone, and the floral flavours were very subtle - which I prefer in my floral scented foods. While I am unlikely to get their special cones again, if I am in the area I may pop by and try some of their other more adventurous flavours (cinnamon bun sounds pretty disappointment-proof!).
