| - This review compiles two things I love. Museums and randomness. On my way back to my car parked at Binion's parking garage I somehow lost my way through the casino. I stumbled upon this big white vintage Lincoln. Upon my curiosity I walked in to admire the vehicle to find out that this is just one of the many pieces that lures you into the museum.This white Lincoln was the last vehicle Elvis purchased prior to his death.
The great thing about this museum was that it was FREE! Yes, folks FREE! I'm not sure how long this stood inside Binion's, but shame on me for not finding it from the very start.
You walk in and you find all sorts of fun information about the King, starting from his childhood up until his death. There were original pieces of his library card marking his first known official signature. They also had the originals of his high school report card which showed he only graded with a C in music (how funny!), and actually had a pretty good attendance record (asides from his few absences). You go on to see his infamous fashion outfits, jewelry, and such. I actually found his outfits to be pretty hip, and I forsee his signature high collar button ups and double breasted jackets to come back again in a few years.
They also featured some of the remaining toiletries from his old Graceland home. My personal favorite was the musical cigarette dispenser that he gave one of his girlfriends. You press the button and music plays, and the six sides of the dispenser opens to hand you a cigarette. On some days when Elvis was feeling humorous he's take out all of the cigarettes and replace them with baby carrots so when people pressed the button expecting a cigarette they'd get a baby carrot instead!
I had a good time in here, and spent a good hour and a half learning about Elvis. This random adventure was well worth the time, and it being FREE made it even better. Towards the end they only ask you for any kind of cash donation to help keep the museum going. You can also pay $5 at the souvenir desk for a program to keep.
**Truly thankful to find this hidden gem, and if you're looking to find something to enjoy for free or to take visitors to entertain, who may not be all about gambling, this might just be the place for you! Definitely bookmark this place. I couldn't find a place to check in so I hope someone will post this as a listing before I do. I also do encourage to donate something to keep this place going. :)
