| - I LOVE coming down to the Fremont Street Experience! Old School Vegas at it's finest! It's very, very hard to come down there and NOT have a great time. I've found, however, it's best to stay on the strip and take a taxi ride over, as it's around 15 bucks. The area around the Experience is ghetto as hell, and I don't think there's enough on this little strip to keep you entertained for more than a few hours.
The highlight, of course, is the MASSIVE LCD screen covering the few blocks of the street. Every hour on the hour, the lights of the casinos are turned down, and the LCD is cranked up, playing a trippy display of cool shapes and colors, all while rock music is blasted through speakers up and down the road. Very cool to sit and watch the show while enjoying an adult beverage, which are very, VERY easy to find here. TONS of bars line the streets offering up beer and of course margaritas and daiquiris. Keep an eye out for the faux celebrities to get your picture with. I saw a few Elvis's, Gene Simmons, Darth Vader, and lots of Vegas Showgirls. Slip them a few bucks, and hop in to get your picture taken.
While you're not taking in the massive light display of the LCD, check out the glittering lights of what you've always pictured Vegas to be up and down the Street. Pop on in to a few of the casinos to play some old school games at old school prices.
Overall, I've always enjoyed my trips to the Fremont Street Experience- again, I just recommend NOT staying here. The hotel rooms are OLD school, meaning you won't get the level of comfort or the entertainment options that the places on the Strip offer. Definitely stay on the strip, hop in a cab one night, and head down for a few hours... enjoy a few of the light shows, have a few drinks, and enjoy some old school Vegas!
