  • At first I didn't mind this place but within only a year things went down hill pretty quickly. Our fur baby was diagnosed with Epilepsy(at a emergency hospital) a little over a year ago. After that, we chose to make Banfield our go-to place to care for our special needs babe because it was affordable & fairly easy to get into. I have nothing bad to say about our first veterinarian at Banfield.. after our prescription was up for Phenobarbital, we had one re-fill left but it was after the "date". We tried to extend our one last prescription but unfortunately our Vet no longer worked there so we had to book another appointment with a new one. I of course was upset but we decide to book an appointment. When we get there, the vet did not believe our dog had epilepsy.. I can't even tell you how many times she nonchalantly accused us of using our dog to get phenobarbital for ourselves. She kept going back to saying.. people all the time try to get prescription drugs through their pets. Just because I have tattoos & may look "different" does not give anyone the right to discriminate against anyone ESPECIALLY when there's absolutely no proof. After this terrible experience, I will never, ever go to Banfield ever again & I tell everyone I know never to go there as well! We now go to Alta Vista & they have educated us on Phenobarbital & how terrible it is. We have since weaned him off of Phenobarbital & is now on Keppra & Purina Neuro Science food. We were never once given the option of other treatment methods or told the side effects of Phenobarbital while with Banfield! When we took him to our new Vet they said he had very high levels of Phenobarbital in his system.. YOU COULD HAVE KILLED MY DOG! Our new Vet told us that he may be on the Neuro Science diet his whole life, but eventually he may not even need to be medicated! That's awesome! After talking with friends, I have learned that Banfield is like the.... Cost Cutters of the Veterinarian world. It's fresh-out-of-school vets.. which is why they can't seem to retain a lot of their vets. Sell, Sell, Sell! $$$$! ..Doesn't matter if it the right treatment! After talking to a lot of friends, we're not the only ones who've had terrible experiences. One of my coworkers actually brought their dog to another Banfield, for years.. they did regular testing but after taking their dog to a new vet... the first time & doing testing, they found out their dog had cancer! If they were actually testing herdog, it would have been found right away... now, they are unsure if their dog will even make it.
