| - I keep going here thinking that maybe it'll be better next time, but it never is. It's location is convenient to me and that's about it.
I get UV Gel nails done, I've had them on for about 2 years. I usually go to Lucy Nails in the Junction but because I work in Bloor West Village, its most convenient. I know what I like done with my nails and because I work with my hands I prefer them to look normal and how I feel comfortable. They're my hands, I live with them, I want them the way I like them.
Every time I ask for a UV Gel fill, they try and sell me on something different (solar or bio). It seems like none of the girls that I've had there know exactly how to do UV Gel. It's either applied too thick, too thin (so that it chips within 2 days) or its lumpy and uneven.
When they file the old gel off with the Dremel drill, they do not take care to stay away from the skin around the nail and therefore burn that skin. Then when applying the new UV Gel onto the nail, they do not take care to remain on the nail and just slather it on all over.
Because of them filing off the first layer of skin around the nail first, the UV Gel burns and itches when it's applied unevenly all over the tip of my finger.
Then when the UV Gel dries, they file the tip of the nail. To get to the now dried shut sides of the nail, they split and peel the gel, which once made my finger bleed. Thank god I know how to take care of myself or it would have turned into an infection.
I prefer having rounded nail tips but they don't seem to understand what that means so I usually end up with some square hybrid that isn't even filed evenly. By this point I'm past the point of arguing anything else from the very defensive manicurists so I go home and file them to the shape I prefer.
The final coat of clear gel they put on before the colour must be old because it's always incredibly thick coming out of the bottle. The girl always has to scrape the bottom of the bottle to get whatever is left, it seems. Not only that but as soon as the colour layer goes on, that clear gel coat bubbles underneath. It then has to be removed entirely and either reapplied just peeled off.
The UV dryers that they have are so tiny, they only should fit one hand at a time but they insist on putting both in, one on top of the other. This way it's nearly impossible not to mistakenly touch a wet nail and have it smudge. I've never understood this reasoning. Shouldn't a manicure facility be equipped with the proper tools?
My patience with the lack of skill at this business has been used up. I'm going to have to find a better place!
