I don't know about you, but when I have family or friends from out of state that come to visit Phoenix/Tempe for the 1st time, they are somewhat shocked that I live in a city. I truly believe, and just from my interactions with those who haven't been to Arizona let alone Phoenix, people truly believe that the Valley is still more western than suburbs. They are expecting dirt for days, rows and rows of cactus, coyotes running ramped and wild javelinas .
So when I learned about Desert Foothills Scene drive, I knew it wouldn't be long before I could show my guest what they are seeking.
Desert Foothills Scene drive is a beautiful ride; it's about six miles on Scottsdale rd between Happy Valley rd and Carefree highway. Scottsdale road is marked with informational signs about the plants and nature in the area, and there are places to pull off to take some pictures.
Take your time, pull over often, explore the area, it's a nice little outing to make you feel like you left the suburbs and are in a true western (well that's how it feels to me, I'm a city girl). As the driver be mindful because I believe the speed limit is 50, so that's why I recommend pulling over so you and your guest can get a good look.
