| - An old fashioned soda fountain is always something I enjoy. The nostalgia of a past era nearly lost in our time. I found Sweet Moses easily and while parking was a bit difficult, it wasn't impossible. I admit, the space is stunning! The marble alone is enough to turn a few heads not to mention the iron chairs at the counter.
My friend and I walked in and as others have described, the front is full of candy and other treats. Pick those out and bring them to you at the counter when you're ready to order your ice cream.
We sat at the counter and immediately noticed the eerie quiet pace of the staff. They were all moving to serve a line of about 7 people lined up behind our seats but it was quiet. I didn't expect a laugh fest but I guess I thought that working at an ice cream shop was kind of cool that would at least lend itself to a smile. We waited for quite some time before we asked if someone could take our order.
I ordered the Mount Carmel. It's vanilla ice cream with salted pistachios, homemade caramel, and candy sprinkles. I wanted to order something simple enough so I could appreciate the flavors. Perhaps I've eaten too much ice cream from many different place in my lifetime but the ice cream was just okay. It was a decent presentation and a good sized portion but not what I expected from the hype. While we were eating our ice cream, the staff broke their silence. Unfortunately, they spoke about a lot of personal things going on in their lives - who they were living with, problems at school, that type of thing. I get that happens but when customers are right at the counter and you are literally 2 feet away, I don't think it's a great idea. They certainly didn't try to engage customers in conversation like how everyone was doing or if they could get anyone anything else.
Overall, disappointing service and okay ice cream.
