I have been to New Amsterdam twice now for wing night, so most of my knowledge of the place begins and ends there. But, trust me, this is enough.
I had heard mixed reviews on New Amsterdam since recently moving to Lawrenceville, mostly in regard to the atmosphere. It is a bit dark inside, but it's great when the garage doors are open and you can have some fresh air. The crowd is nothing different than i would expect anywhere else in l-ville. Slightly eccentric, but nice enough. The bar tender (who takes orders from the tables as well) was always friendly and made helpful suggestions during our first visits.
Now the food.
The wings are delicious. My boyfriend (though I consider it quite boring) is a classic buffalo wing aficionado. We had to go back the second time just to make sure the buffalo sauce was as good as I'm about to tell you. It is amazing!! I usually drift towards the "fancier" sauces , but that simply isn't necessary at this place. As again demonstrated by their salt & vinegar wings. When you have a good wing, you just don't need to drown it in some crazy sauce concoction.
We also have tried several appetizers. I prefer the seasoned fries to the sweet potato fries which were cooked slightly less than I like. We thoroughly enjoyed the cauliflower nuggets and I highly suggest them.
Bottom line, go here. Try the wings. Being there on wing night is just a bonus.
