| - When T&T opened up a few years ago in the GTA West, I was thrilled! The GTA East had so many options of cheap and good quality Asian produce and grocery items. We had smaller stores but most of them were either expensive or the quality was suspect. Things that were supposed to move weren't moving (I'm looking at you upside down 'back stroking' fish) and things that weren't supposed to move, were moving (tilapia filet smelled so bad that seagulls wouldn't even touch it).
My love for this store is from a few things. The big one is that it's clean and produce is always fresh. I've never had fishy smelling items, wilting or early rotting vegetables or fruits, or off tasting items. I recently bought $1/lb mussels and they were fantastic. Sweet, plump, and minimal dead ones (only 2 out of a huge 3.4 lb bag!). They have great deals on lobster and crab right now. For less than $6, you can get a good medium sized shellfish that is super fresh.
They have a large assortment of baked goods and fresh items. Though I wouldn't say the dim sum, bbq items, or food counter is sit down restaurant quality, the prices are really low compared to most of them in the area and you can see them making the dim sum right in front of you. My child loves seeing them rolling, pinching, and filling the dim sum. The food counters makes the typical Chinese dishes and for $6 you get a full meal (Entree, side, and rice)! The ma po tofu isn't so bad.
Though this place is more expensive than the smaller Asian markets and markets in the east end, it's a great shopping experience in the GTA West. I find it's always clean and a great experience. They do have good deals and it can compete with prices with the best of them on those weekly sales.
