| - I went to icombat on a Saturday a few weeks ago with some friends from out of town as well as a few local friends. We were looking for a fun activity to do together and it was pretty chilly/hailing outside so we thought this would be fun.
We checked out the website to see if there was anything we needed to know, pay online, make reservations, times that games started, etc. Saw the times the games were and not much else so we jumped in the car and headed down. When we got there we were informed that our party of 8 people was absolutely not going to get into a game until 6pm (it was 3pm game we were planning on) on a Saturday. Fair enough, we were fine with that, but maybe you could have given us a heads up on the website? They said we needed to pay in advance in order to reserve our spots in the 6pm game, so we fronted the money for 6 of our 8 and our out of town friends paid for their 2.
We arrive at 5:30pm pumped for our game and then all the drama slowly began to start. They had us segregated into 2 parties because we paid for 6 and then 8. Even though we explicitly said that there were 8 of us wanting to play together. When we signed in they then had us sign into 2 different parties of 4 as they said that was the max party size. Couldn't they have mentioned that at 3pm when we were paying and reserving our spots? They promised us they would try to get all 8 of us on the same 16 player team and if they couldn't, they would come talk to us so that we could decide how we wanted to split up. So we are finally let into the room where we get our team assignments and guns and vests and surprise, surprise we are NOT on the same team. When we asked they said they couldn't do anything about it. There was one group of 4 on the black team that they could swap so our 8 could be on the black team, but they left it up to those 4 strangers who said they didn't want to play on the camouflage team because they didn't like the color. Thanks group of 20 year old guys.
At this point I was suuuper annoyed because we had to spend the entire orientation time trying to figure out a mess they promised wouldn't happen in the first place. The teenagers that work there have no conflict solution skills and had seemingly no way to rectify the situation. So we went into our hour long game no even playing on the same team as our out of town friends. The majority of the people playing in our group of 30 were teenage/20 something guys who clearly do this regularly. The actual playing of the game wasn't nearly as much fun as I remember laser tag being when I was younger.
On a positive note, the equipment and facilities of icombat is top notch. I agree with the many other commenters that I would only come back with a private party. Otherwise it's a lot of money ($30 a pop) to spend to run around with 17 year old boys who don't like the color of the camouflage team as much as the black team.
1 star customer service + 4 star equipment = 2 stars for icombat.
