  • Background: I moved from California to Vegas a few months ago. I came from a ranch with over 8 outdoor cats (3 were over the age of 18 years). They all at one point were wild outdoor cats which changed with 2 years of love and care for them. When I moved I couldn't take them with me. I also owned a mom-and-pop pet store for over 10 years. I've been apart of many sanctuaries and volunteered at the SPCA numerous times and have never been met with such hostility or stuck-up people. Flash forward to today where I went into Heaven Can Wait where I was met by two ladies. Upon entering the shelter to talk to the ladies and socialize with the cats, I was asked a series of questions. Each question seemed more and more pointed on attacking my knowledge of cat care. The second I questioned what the ladies said or disagreed with the numerous ignorant comments they made about cats and cat care (ie: "Young cats need to be sent home with another cat to keep up their activity."), they made it quite clear that they didn't like me or how I felt. They simply said "we want the best homes for our cats." Really? You think the small 3x10 cage 10+ cats live in is better than all the affection, attention, and love my family would bring to an adopted cat? How can a company that supposedly bases its objective on the well-being of animals approach those who want to help in such a hostile way? On top of that, when I pointed out one of the cats had blood in it's stool, the lady looked at me and said "oh don't worry, it's not sick or anything." Bottom line: GO RESCUE FROM ANOTHER SHELTER LIKE THE SPCA.
