  • BUYER BEWARE! About a month ago, my husband and I started shopping for a new Jeep for our family and began our search online. We came across a very good price on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland at Autosource with extremely low mileage (20K). As I had never purchased a vehicle from a small dealership, my first instinct was to look through Yelp and Google to read customer reviews. With a decent amount of good feedback, we decided to take a look at the car in-person. When we arrived, our salesperson, Dan, disclosed the reason for the stellar price on the vehicle was due to the fact that the car was victim to flooding in Houston's Hurricane Harvey. He then assured us that their dealership was the first to purchase several of these cars with the least amount of exposure to water, in his words 'less than an inch of water above the floor boards'. We test drove the car and found it very clean and it ran like new. Saving thousands in exchange for a rebuilt title for less than an inch of water exposure seemed like a deal we just couldn't refuse. So we purchased the vehicle, warranty and gap insurance. A little over a week after our purchase, the radiator completely failed on my way home from work. I arrived at home to find a trail of radiator fluid in my tracks and fluid still pouring out from under the car. We called the warranty company, had the car towed to the shop and repaired. We were told Autosource paid for the repair and it did not go through warranty. The repair took almost a week to complete. We chalked it up as a week of inconvenience, a crazy fluke and continued driving the car. Another week went by and the keyless entry on the front door handles stopped working properly. Instead of pressing the button once to lock, I now had to press the button 3 to 4 times on average. On one occasion, the lock would not respond at all and I had to use the key fob to lock the car. At the same time, we noticed the engine was starting to make noise and shifting gears with a slight jolt from 2 to 3 RPM's until the car warmed up after a cold start. Then the stereo started shorting out occasionally. I called the warranty to make another appointment to take the car into the shop, but the shop was so busy we couldn't get an appointment until the following week. At the same time these issues started happening with the car, my son and I began not feeling well. My son woke up in the middle of the night two nights in a row with chest pain in his back. We rushed him to urgent care on the second night to find no explanation. I also started getting really strong pains in my left back, chest and arm that would get worse by the end of the day to where I was having trouble breathing. I had already committed to driving to LA with my son for my cousin's graduation over the weekend so we left on the trip. By the time we arrived to the graduation, I had an unbearable amount of chest and arm pain and I was having trouble breathing. My aunt rushed me to the ER, but doctors could not find an answer for the pain after several tests. I drove back home the next day to have the same intense pain reaction and shortness of breath as the day before almost sending me back to the ER. Finally, we started putting two and two together and considered the fact that my pain might be from a contaminant or mold in the car. My husband decided to inspect the car in more detail, checking the spare tire area, under the seats, the cabin air filter, etc. to discover the water had been MUCH higher than an inch above the floor boards as we were told! The highest water line we found was to the VIN number in the windshield! We also found the cabin air filter was never replaced and was FILTHY! The spare tire area also had water stains and what looked like mold! As of last week we confronted Autosource and they offered to clean the car and fix the issues we are experiencing. They will not take the car back and claim even though they may have sold the car under false pretenses, we bought the car 'As Is' and it's our problem now. Exactly the story you hear about scammy small auto dealerships. I appreciate the assistance they are offering, but feel they should take responsibility for misleading us on the condition and safety of the vehicle. I am so terrified to drive the car now and fear something else might fail and cause an accident with my kids in the car. Also I cannot bare the thought of not knowing if we are exposing the kids to whatever contaminant might be in the car and could make them seriously ill. Since not being in the car for several days my symptoms have completely subsided. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not consider buying a flood car or doing business with Autosource! This has been a horrible nightmare I do not wish on anyone!!
