I received a set of pens as a gift that I normally don't use and took the item to another Michael's asking if I could do exchange. They said yes, that would be fine, but unfortunately were sold out of the set I needed. This store had the item in stock, so I drove over and asked about doing an exchange. I was told that without a receipt, I could not do an exchange. I mentioned I was just at another store where the manager said it was no problem. The employee then takes my item and looks it over to make sure it is unused, asks me when I received it which had been just a few days prior, then again tells me there's nothing they can do even though michaels.com clearly states that in store returns without a receipt, "Refunds will be in the form of a Store Return Card and/or merchandise exchange." Horrible customer service.
