Cool place for harder-to-find European foods. Their hot counter is definitely worth a try, as is their deli section.
Had:
Vienna Schnitzel ($6.99 including mashed potatoes) - Two pieces of schnitzel means a good amount of meat. At $6.99, I kinda wish there were some veggies included or something, but not a bad deal. Mashed potatoes are the smooth, slightly liquid kind, not the super-dense stuff. Schnitzel was tender and the breading was light and crispy. We got tomato sauce on the side, and it wasn't particularly tomato-y. It was almost tabasco sauce colored.
Cevapi ($5.99) - 5 caseless sausages (cevapi) in a spongy bun served with minced red onions and cream cheese. This was a really big sandwich. Super filling. I had half and my friend had the other half, and both of us agreed that we were almost full just from that half sandwich. I quite enjoyed the bread. It was like a spongy English muffin. The sausage was salty on its own, but with the bread, quite enjoyable. If you're not uber-adventurous, this is the pick for you. It's almost tastes like a riff on a burger. I'd get this again.
Spinach and Cheese Burek ($5.49) - Giant snail-like coil of pastry stuffed with spinach and cheese. Lots of cheese taste (in a soft, white cheese way, and not in a sharp, cheddary way). Wish there had been more filling to pastry though. Also wish the pastry was flakier.
Also bought:
Jellied tongue - $1.89 or something per 100g. Pretty sure it was beef.
Head cheese - $1.39 or something per 100g. Head cheese is all those bits and pieces from the head, but in an aspic (meat jelly). More meat than jelly in this one.
We asked if we could try the deli meats before we bought them, and we were given a sample from each of the ones that we ended up buying. Both were yummy.
I'll be back to try more things. Very cool find.
