I had high hopes for Echo & Rig but I can't help but feel totally disappointed after having our dinner there tonight.
I had originally wanted to order the rib cap but they were out of it by 7pm on a Wednesday night. Instead, I followed the suggestion of our waiter and ordered the Bavette cut which he said was very well marbled. He also recommended ordering it Medium (which was fine with me since that's how I usually order my steaks).
When my steak arrived, I was disappointed to see that:
1) It was not as marbled as the waiter had mentioned
2) 75% of my steak was medium rare (red, raw, way too bloody).
I notified my waiter and he told me he could ask the kitchen to recook my steak. A few minutes later, he came back with my half eaten steak and this time it looked like a charcoal. When I touched the steak with my fork, I could immediately tell it was still too raw. This was confirmed when I cut into the steak and still saw bloody red. By this time, there was no point to send it back to the kitchen because my steak was already charcoal and sending it back would cook it more but it would probably end up a burnt crisp. When asked how my steak was, I showed him that it was still too rare. He apologized and said that due to how thick the steak was, it was impossible to cook it more without burning the outside. I totally agreed. There has to be a better way to cook the steaks so that it comes out the correct fineness without burning the outside.
The things that did turn out well that night:
1) Friendliness Oc wait staff
2) Beautiful restaurant setting
3) Kale salad
4) Butternut squash
