  • After discovering my love for oysters and Cajun food in the Big Easy I knew I needed to try this place out. I've had oysters at a few other places in the city and they just don't compare to the ones you get in Nola. So I had given up on ordering oysters in Pittsburgh until I heard about Muddy Waters. I was very excited to try this place out and it lived up to all the hype! If you are looking for oysters in Pittsburgh, you MUST come to Muddy Waters...best in the city for sure! My boyfriend and I made a reservation and arrived early so we sat at the bar and ordered some drinks. The drinks (Lavender Bees Knees and New Fashioned) were great as was the service at the bar so when our table was ready we opted to just stay and eat at the bar. I def recommend making a reservation though because it's not very big. They also had live jazz music which was pretty cool. We ordered the chargrilled oysters and they were so delicious we had to get another order! I wanted to order everything on the menu but had to control myself. So after the oysters, we went with the fried green tomatoes which in my opinion was a no brained because not many restaurants have them. Oh and did I mention they come with pimento cheese?! Pimento cheese is also hard to come by and a favorite of mine...tomatoes were absolutely delicious and crisp to perfection. A very filing small plate too. After that we ordered the sausage and gator gumbo and corn bread. The gumbo was amazing, very tasty. I'd say prob the best gumbo you're gonna get in the city. Cornbread was also good but I was not amazed by it. It was a little dry, but I'm a cornbread lover so it was a must try and I'd prob get it again. We did not get dessert and I regret it because the beignets looked amazing. All in all, everything from the food, drinks, atmosphere, service was wonderful and a great experience. I did not get to try everything I wanted so I will absolutely be back!
