| - I was referred to Advanced Heart & Vascular Center for my cardiac problems & get clearance for ortho surgery & biopsy. I was evaluated by Dr. Ram Singh & he appeared thorough & ordered a host of cardiac tests in his office. I made appt's for the 2nd week of May. I got a call from Colleen in billing stating I had to pay $400+ towards my deductible in order to do the test. I told her that the deductible should've been applied already since I had recent ER visit. Colleen said its not reflected on the website & if I couldn't pay I need to cancel. I would cancel until I get it straightened out. I decided to call Colleen back & asked if I provided itemized statements reflecting previous charges for prior d.o.s could she take that as proof the deductible has been applied to prior charges could I get the tests done so She said "Umm, no we don't do that." I told her to transfer me to the front desk to reschedule. Colleen was RUDE! I rescheduled my tests for the following week. I went to my PCP on the 18th and was told I only had $95 left to meet my deductible. So when I showed up today to have the 1st test done I was told I still owed over $400. I was so confused so I gave them the paper my PCP gave to me reflecting a $95 balance still owed and was told this has nothing to do with them.
I explained AGAIN that I have several charges for April & May that exceeded my deductible. I no longer wanted to deal w/Colleen bcuz she was rude & needed to be right instead of helping. I am highly symptomatic with swollen feet/legs & shortness of breath. I asked to speak w/ the mgr, Kim, & was told by Colleen to wait in the lobby. I went to the lobby and sat for 30 minutes waiting for Kim's availability. I decided I had been patient enough & asked the receptionist if Kim knew I was waiting & she said "yes, but the problem is that Kim is doing 3 very difficult ultrasounds and that's what's taking so long." Well, I guess it was too much to ask for Colleen to update me. But why would I expect her to be anything other than rude and unprofessional.
Finally, Kim the manager comes out to talk to me and I go over what happened & told her Colleen was rude but she didn't address it at all. However, skipping over my comment about Colleen she offered a resolution by saying if I call my insurance company and that if they could give Colleen verbal confirmation that there is pending charges reflecting its applued towards my deductible they would do test I so desperately needed.
I immediately called my ins co & poured over the charges with the rep to verify charges applied towards my deductible. I told the insurance rep to hold on she needed to tell Colleen as I was instructed to by Kim. I was thinking finally its been 3 hours now I can get this resolved. Well, nope that's not what happened. Kim denied telling me that & I misunderstood her. Colleen said that Kim is not her boss & she has nothing to do with billing. WTF?! ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS?! 3 hrs of B.S. & I am right back where I started. Here I am with swollen legs, ankles, feet & shortness of breath and they are worried about $$ nothing else. I didn't feel well and have waited 2 weeks to get this done and they have me waste 3 hours knowing in the end they were NOT going to do any tests without me paying them even though I would end up with a refund. I told Kim I would find another cardiologist bcuz at this point I don't trust I would get the care I needed if I owed ONE CENT! Kim stopped me as I was walking out of the door and said "well, wait a moment we are going to help you since you are symptomatic I will have the N.P see you. I turned around and sat back down and after a moment I realized that I would NOT be getting the test but I was going to see the N.P. about the severe edema in my lower extremities. Well, I just saw my endocrinologist on Friday and she is aware of the swelling and added some more meds so I didn't need to see the N.P. I needed the tests so that I can be cleared for a ortho & biopsy. This is healthSCARE NOT healthcare. In 32 yrs in healthcare I've NEVER seen a patient being put through so much B.S. for basic care. This just leaves the patient screwed and no one gives a crap. Have Money and we smile; A few dollars short healthcare ABORT!
Update: My review caused some legal concern so Chelsea called me to come back 2 days after my Yelp review. I was hesitant but agreed to see Dr. Benson. I shouldn't have went. After I signed in & paid my co-pay and Chelsea (receptionist) threw a clipboard at me I should have left. I opted to stay. Staff had to call the Paramedics due to my symptoms. The call to return was just a rouse to cover their ass legally for patient abandonment. A few days after the "office visit" I got a letter from them saying they would no longer see me as a patient. No explanation why just didn't want to see me! Their slogan should be "WE TREAT HEARTS BUT WE DON'T HAVE ONE"
