| - I stay at a lot of Hilton/Doubletree Hotels around the world so get to see the best of the best and worst of the worst.
While not the worst, this wasn't the greatest. It's an older building that's been updated around the fringes. Some new paint here and there, new furniture and bedding, etc. But once you sit and look around, you start to see the age and wear in many areas. The layout is somewhat sprawling - meaning, some rooms are more accessible if you park around back vs front.
Check-in was efficient but as I rounded the corner down the hall to the elevators, I caught the smell of chlorine from the pool and then my first smell of mustiness. I took the elevator up and out on my floor, and the mustiness was more apparent.
As I entered my room, the first thing I noticed was carpeting in the sink area. Gross. The sink area sat outside of the bath and the carpeting was worn and stained. The bathroom had the same updated yet worn feel. Caulking around tub, ceiling, etc. were worn and just felt dirty. I was immediately resigned to wearing shoes around the room for my stay and constantly felt like I had to watch what I touched.
Fast forward to the next morning. I used the gym which was small and crowded. I felt rushed as other guests kept opening the door, seeing it full and walking away. The breakfast buffet was decent but hard to find.
Although I never ate there, Shula's 2 is the onsite restaurant and supposed to be a high-end steak restaurant. Instead I walked down to Delmonico's which had a more intimate feel and great service. Probably the best aspect of this hotel is the number of nearby restaurants (dozens within a 1 min drive or walk).
I planned to stay here for a week while relocating to the area but checked out after three days to try the Beachwood location.
