  • We went to Lowe's on FLW Blvd in Scottsdale to get an estimate for new kitchen counter tops. The person we talked to said he could not give estimates based on my measurements because someone had given a customer an estimate that was $250 off. We were told that in order to get an "estimate" we would have to pay $35 for someone to come out to measure. (Huh? Who charges for estimates or quotes anymore?) This would actually be a quote which is not what we were looking for. Anyone with even rudimentary knowledge of English knows the difference between an estimate and a quote. I was asking for an ESTIMATE not a quote! He said he could get in trouble for doing it but he would, very grudgingly, do me a favor and do it anyway. Frankly I didn't care if I got him in trouble at that point because his crappy attitude, and the idiocy of such a policy made me not want to do business with Lowe's anyway so I told him to forget it. The day before we went to Lowe's we went to Home Depot at Bell and Tatum and they were quite happy to give us an estimate which we fully understood was exactly that, AN ESTIMATE. It took the lady about 5 minutes which was only slightly longer than it took the jerk at Lowe's to explain why he couldn't do what their competitor down the street was quite happy to do. This is the second time we have been treated badly by the people in that department. The first time we couldn't even get anyone to talk to us apparently because we were looking at merchandise that wasn't high end enough to merit their attention. Now that they've redone the kitchen remodeling area they have found new and different ways to blow customers out the door. I'm so done with Lowe's! They have lost my business for anything, forever. I wouldn't let them replace my counters if they did it for free. I will pay more for anything anywhere else just so I don't ever have to darken their door again. I will gladly take my thousands of dollars and spend them at Home Depot.
