| - The thing is, the donuts are good. You will not be disappointed with your purchase. And, up until today, my experiences here have been very positive. That being said, this afternoon I was being helped by a lovely young lady and was really discomfited by how she was treated by the older woman whom I assume is the owner or at a manager/more senior position. When the woman who was helping me saw me taking pictures of the donut labels (so I could remember when people asked later), she offered to write down the names for me. I wasn't going to accept anyway, it wasn't a big deal to just take the pictures since no one was around, but the older woman acidly snapped at her "Don't do that. If there are 10 customers in line and you do that, that would be bad" (or something along those lines) and then, as she was walking away, muttered "the names are online."
Wow.
I totally understand the point she's making (I've worked in retail too and know not to exacerbate rushes), but that is no way to talk to someone who's new and just trying to be thoughtful - and, again, I was the only one in line at the time so it wouldn't have made a difference. If you want to give them advice, wait until the customer leaves and let the employee know politely, don't denigrate her in public. Maybe you were having a bad day, but even if so, your behaviour was unnecessarily rude, and, more importantly, super unprofessional. I'm all for supporting local businesses with great products, but I honestly don't know if I'll continue doing so here - there are plenty of other donut shops that I'm sure I'd feel better leaving than I did at Von today. So disappointing.
