I can't for the life of me figure out what Cabela's is doing.
Are they in business to sell merchandise? Or do they put a gun to the head of their unwitting customers who wander into the store in order to pay such extravagant prices?
Their firearms and ammunition are badly overpriced. Figure MSRP plus 12%-16% and you're in the neighborhood.
The "sale" price is for a limited number of a few of the items. What do I mean by that? If they have 1,000 boxes of ammunition, the sale price applies to (arbitrarily assumed) 50 boxes or cases. When those 50 are sold out, the price reverts back to MSRP plus Cabela's markup.
I went in to purchase ammunition scheduled to be on sale on a certain day: the store opened 20+ minutes before I arrived, and when I asked about the sale-priced ammunition, was told that the "lot of the 'sale-priced' ammunition had been sold out." To whom? Employees? As I was sitting in my vehicle talking on my phone, I didn't see more than 6 or 7 people walk into the store, and none of them came out pushing a cart filled with ammunition.
I'm not sure what Cabela's is in business for
They're not either.
