  • So, here's my confession: I'm a content writer/ content marketer and I write for the finance industry a lot. Many of my articles/blogs teach consumers how budget, pay off debt, and manage their finances, but I still was not doing a good job of managing my own. (Ironic, right?) Writing is my thing. I love it, and I think I do my job really well, but my business and personal finances were all lumped into one jumbled knot and, no matter how many self-help articles I read (or wrote), I never found a method beyond the "canned" strategies: set a budget and only spend what you make. Well, duh. If it was that easy, we'd all do it. It's not. I found Fiscal Fitness on Yelp and called to ask about a one-on-one session, and, although the rate was reasonable, it was out of my budget. Instead, I booked a spot in one of their workshops: "Ultimate Financial Power Plan for Entrepreneurs." The fee was really reasonable (about the cost of a dinner out), I got to bring a friend free, and the group was small, so there was lots of learning and one-on-one dialogue. When you meet with a "financial expert," there's always this expectation that you'll meet some old gray man who looks at you sternly and scolds you for your financial misdeeds. Kelsa is NOT your typical accountant/ financial guru. She's insanely down-to-earth about what people do and why they do it. She doesn't give you numbers that you have to meet or tell you how you've messed up. She gives you the tools you need to make sound decisions for yourself. The workshop was about 90 minutes. In that time, she covered effective management of personal finances as well as how to set up business finances in a way that allows you to minimize taxes, detangle your personal finances from it, and have money left over to develop your company more. She also gave tips that can help an entrepreneur restructure so he or she works less or is less-likely to burnout from overload. If you're an entrepreneur or have a startup, the advice she gives is gold. Best of all, she actually sends you materials after the workshop, including her slideshow and templates, so it's easy to move forward with your new financial plan after. I want to be clear that I'm not affiliated with Kelsa or Fiscal Fitness in any way, shape, or form. This is a legit review from a business owner who happens to write content/ do marketing for a living. I felt it was important to explain my background for the sake of transparency and because I'm being really verbose. :) Anyway, thank you for putting on a wonderful workshop, Kelsa. I hope to attend your other ones directed at parents and business owners later this year.
