| - *Sigh*
I'm not sure how long OfficeMax will be in business.
Prior to leaving the U.S. for a year, I wrote a classic review of the now-defunct MetroCenter location (that you can read here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/officemax-phoenix-4), which finally shut down sometime in 2014. So my faxes and occasional in-store purchases now come to this location. Sadly, I feel like this location is also on the verge of collapse.
During my last visit, my mother and I were browsing an aisle for an organizer when we could hear an employee at a front register singing a rather explicit "made up" song about hating work and Christmas. When we went up front to his register (he was wearing a baseball cap tilted to the side), he didn't even look at us and pointed to the other register and said "go there".
Now, I'm pretty aware of the depressing atmosphere of the old brick-and-mortar stores that Amazon.com is basically putting out of business, but yikes! At least TRY to give a damn while you are still working there. Luckily, my mom isn't the type to take lousy service too personally. But for me, this attitude is endemic in places like OfficeMax. I find it rather sad actually.
Would I go back?
Maybe.
Only if I absolutely need something quickly and can't have it shipped. Does it make me sad it has actually come to this because the service, selection, and prices are so lousy?
Absolutely.
Poor service, not caring, and crudeness. Half-barren store, lousy prices. Yup. I can actually see the end for this OfficeMax location. Just like its sister location at MetroCenter.
