| - Monte Carlo is a fairly good value but just too boring for me. Mind you I'm in my early 40s so I'm not the twenty something all wild and crazy in Vegas but Monte Carlo is a snooze fest. Stayed here on a MLife offer for a comp night Sun - Thurs. Paid for a Sat & Sun and got a Monday night free. Got a standard two queen bed room on the 8th floor. Definitely a "beige" room. NOTHING has changed in these standard rooms since I stayed here in 1998 and 2008. Oh, except for the resort fees of which I get nothing out of them experiencing a terrible headache when I have to pay them. Come on get with the times Monte Carlo and get wi-fi all throughout the hotel and casino! Who uses a wired internet connection anymore? This is a beige and brown, bland, boring hotel. There's just nothing special here. There is a flat screen tv in the room with no hi-def signal. It is pitiful! The tv looks terrible but who's in their room watching it anyway I guess. Just wanted to watch a little NFL football on a Sunday morning while getting ready though. The furniture in the room is so old and scratched in the room you would think you were staying in a bad, cheap motel. The room decor has not changed since it was built. I think that goes for the beds and mattresses too. Ours was not comfy, it sagged. The mattress looked and felt like it was worn out and needed to be replaced. However, if you stay at Hotel 32, which is on the high floors that were renovated with insurance monies from the fire a few years ago, that is now a resort within a resort and those rooms have wi-fi and are much nicer. Bottom line, inside of the hotel needs a thorough renovation to modernize. The rooms need complete remodel and updates asap plus wi-fi added throughout the entire hotel. If you read more reviews, they say the same thing about no wi-fi throughout the entire hotel, it's only in the lobby. Despite what you think casino management, people gamble while on their smartphones on Facebook, Twitter, texting and Yelping of course!! Plus, people will stay sitting at slots longer because they are digitally connected and can get in touch with friends and family via electronics. Ha, maybe tell them to come and sit by them and gamble with them!
Yeah, Monte Carlo has the Blue Man Group, the Ice Bar, The Pub and a steak house but if you don't go to them, then there's nothing else. Tried to go to The Pub to watch NFL on a Sunday but it was packed. Servers said you have to get there really early for a spot. The pool is shaded most of the day and everyone crowds into the littlest sunny spot in the earlier part of the day.
Mold around the tub and shower in the bathroom was just plain gross. I just don't see how it is that much work for maintenance to remove the sealant around the sides of the tub and shower that is moldy and apply new sealant. It is so gross to look at it, none the less, shower in it. The shower head is terrible. My 6'3" husband has to duck a mile to wash his hair. It's like they placed the shower head in a spot on the wall for growing adolescents. Plus, of course there is no water pressure because they are using water saving faucets and shower heads.
I redeemed rewards from Facebook myVegas slots for a buffet of buy one get one free at the Monte Carlo buffet. I would not eat at the Monte Carlo buffet again. There's a reason you've never heard of the Monte Carlo Buffet before. It was not good. Not even worth the coupon. I would spend my time and money going to a higher quality buffet in the future. Even Harrah's buffet is better. I cannot remember one item of food that I consumed that had any real taste. Everything was bland.
The only good things for Monte Carlo Resort and Casino are that check-in was fast, no cab line (I wonder why? not many guests staying there?), lots of elevators to room towers so no wait for elevators, Diablos out front is pretty fun late night for some people watching, Ignite Lounge up front has some pretty good specialty drinks, staff are friendly for the most part, and housekeeping seemed pretty good. If you like coffee there is a Keurig in the room but I didn't use it. If I would've known maybe I would've brought a flavored coffee k-cup with me but I wasn't interested in the plain black stuff. No fridge in the room if anyone is wondering.
If you're looking for a very basic, value property in Vegas with no frills, no pizazz, no glitz, then Monte Carlo may be for you. It's just too blah for me and I can't handle the mold in the shower. Even a three-star Harrah's or Flamingo mid-strip is more exciting for me. Especially when the Linq is done. Go Rooms at Flamingo have mini fridges in the rooms I might add.
