  • I went to Fitness Depot to shop for a replacement treadmill. My original treadmill was quite old so the technology had changed a lot and I had a lot to learn. I initially went to the Bartley Drive location (recently moved from Bermondsey) and had a fabulous sales guy, Keith, who gave me a wonderful overview of the new units and helped me to narrow down my selection without an aggressive sales pitch, which I appreciated. I also went to Foremost Fitness, Sears and did a lot of online research. After discussing the options with my partner I dropped into the Yonge Street Fitness Depot location, which was across the street from a work meeting I had just attended, to take a close up pic of the unit display that I couldn't get online and asked the staff a few questions - mostly about he Apple TV hook up option. Having made my purchase decision I called the Bartley location back the next day however Keith was off that day and I spoke to the owner, Scott. This changed everything! First Scott was incredibly abrupt and in my opinion seriously lacked customer service skills. He confirmed the pricing but gave me a different delivery and set up charge then I was initially quoted by Keith. Which was also different then what I was told by Yonge Street. There was a $100 variance! So I called the Blue Jays Way location to ask about their delivery and set up cost. He called me back, gave me the cost and stated that he was aware that I had been to the Yonge Street location and referred me back to that sales person if I wished to make the purchase. I appreciated that they honor their sales people however I was not intending to purchase from their location anyway I just wanted to clarify the delivery set up costs. I had spent considerable time with Keith at Bartley and only about 10 minutes with Yonge Street so my decision was to make the purchase from Keith when he returned to work. HOWEVER, about a half hour later I received a phone call from Scott (owner from Bartley location where I had originally went) who stated that he was aware that I had been to Yonge Street and called Blue Jays Way and advised me not to 'waste my time' going to other stores to try to get a better deal. He stated that they are a corporate store and they "talk". He then advised me that they had "sent an email" around to their stores stating .. his words "watch out for Charlene". OMFG! How incredibly offensive. Watch out for me? Who, the woman who wants to buy a treadmill? Shocking .. I'm shopping for a treadmill, of course I visit more then one store in my decision making process. I'm still processing his audacity to police my shopping and his nerve to actually call me and say that. Talk about alienating a potential customer. The end result is that I feel bad for Keith (Bartley sales guy). He was wonderful, patient, educational and had great customer service skills yet now I can't bring myself to give my $4000 to Fitness Depot which means that Keith looses out on a well deserved sale - thanks to his incredibly inappropriate manager! Good job boss! Stick to the books and keep the sales and customer service to the people who are trained to do it.
