  • I was unable to find a specific listing for the buffet, so I am entering my review here. My wife and I have been here a couple of times in the last year, and so, we wanted to go someplace we hadn't been in a while. Off to the Suncoast. Full disclosure: We went on Friday 27 February, arriving in line at 8:10 pm. We were aware that the buffet closes at 9:00 pm, and we were advised that the food was pulled from the line at 9:30 pm. With this in mind, we paid and entered. Pros: Service was impeccable. The cashier was pleasant and very informative, the seater was very cheery and accommodating for my wife's bad back, and the lady serving drinks asked if we wanted refills any time she came by and saw our drinks were less than three-quarters full. However ... ... the food was marginal. I made a first plate a "protein plate" - meatballs and sausage (picked from the sausage-and-peppers) from the Italian section, the "heel cut" of the prime rib roast off the American section, and one piece of barbecue chicken, also from the American section. Meatballs, sausage and chicken were adequate but not outstanding; about a B-. The rib roast was seasoned with something unpleasant to my taste (which I probably wouldn't have tasted that much of if I hadn't gotten the heel of the roast); about a D+. The Orchid's plate was less-than-adequate to her taste; about a C-. My second plate sent me to fried scallops (the Great Bearded Bird is a sucker for a good scallop) and I found some kernel corn right there. Corn was good; B+. Scallops were heavily breaded and therefore undercooked; C-. No-sugar-added vanilla ice cream was actually quite good (never a guarantee with artificial sweeteners); A-. Food selection "cons": no cottage cheese available (one of Orchid's favorite dishes is peaches-and-cottage-cheese); no bread available except the Italian breadsticks and garlic bread. A distinct let-down from the last two times we were there. Probably will not return. -- -- -- -- -- On the newly-established Nighthawk 100-point scale: 40 before the feedback comment; 60 after, for the courtesy of at least reading the review.
