| - I walked by the Eglinton location one day, not knowing before of its existence. They had a mani-pedi promo on Thursdays so I thought, "Why not? I'll give it a try!" I thought that given it was a school, there would be supervision of students and the place would be ultra sterile.
Wow, was I wrong.
After signing a waiver, I waited briefly. The receptionist told me that because I wanted shellac polish, they could not soak my feet or hands. (WTF?) OK, whatever I just wanted my cuticles cleaned up and some nice summer polish.
I was then led to a room where I was greeted my by two technicians: one who was in a rush to her next job, and another who had no idea what the F she was doing.
The one girl left and the other was left alone and she had never put on shellac polish before. (Actually, I don't think she had painted a nail before either).
She started on my feet...and this was right after she had her fingers in her mouth chomping on her nails and ripping at her cuticles with her teeth... no hand washing and straight to my feet. She painted a couple of my toe nails then stopped to check her phone. She resumed to my feet and once finished all five toes with SHELLAC polish she started to BLOW ON THEM. SHE WAS BLOWING ON MY FEET. I had to tell her that they needed to go into the UV machine to cure.
She got through the awful paint job and started on my hands. At fist she wanted me to sit at the table with no towel down though the one next to it was set up--which is where I ended up sitting. Once she sat down, she picked up each tool and inspected it, almost as if she was figuring out which to use. She found one she liked and barely pushed my cuticles back and didn't even know how to properly hold the little cuticle scissor thing. She kept getting up to look for another tool which is when I took it myself and started working on my own hands.
I was already there almost an hour and 45 minutes and I had a horrible job in my feet and was only half way done my first hand when I told her "thank you but I think I will finish these at home." I felt a little bad because she was a really sweet girl but dumb as F. I could feel my anxiety rise each time she touched my fingers. I knew I did not want shellac on poorly groomed fingernails so I had to end it.
The receptionist told me that a pedicure is usually $45. WHAT THE EFFFFFFF??? And like I was getting a deal. Their website said $22 and $32. She originally told me it was $45 plus a 15% new customer discount. (Keep in mind, that's $45 WITHOUT soaking my feet or doing a proper pedicure with the sand paper or cheese grater thing either). I told her that was well above the pricing online. Also, online it says shellac is $5 extra but when I got there they told me it was $10. I went all Destiny's Child and was like no no no no no.
Anyway, in the end I only paid $22+$5-15%+tip. I tipped only because I didn't want to be an asshole though it was absolutely not deserved.
Oh, by the way--this girl also took off her scrubs to show me her armpit where she was burned by laser hair removal.
I'M SORRY I CHEATED ON YOU NAILSENSE. I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU AGAIN.
