| - 3.75 stars for our fun stay at NYNY Hotel. =)
NYNY is one of those hotels I love to walk through but have never stayed at...until now that is. It was the bf's birthday so we took a 4 day trip to Vegas and I wanted to try this hotel. The rates have gone down considerable which made me worry just a bit but after spending 3 nights here, I say it's a bargain (especially for families).
I booked a Park Ave. room, non-smoking with a king bed...they gave us two queens instead because they didn't have a king available & asked if we wanted to switch in the morning - I said we'd just stay with two queens since I didn't feel like moving around. Here's the good & bad of our stay:
The GOOD!:
*Clean room & bathroom - our room was at the very, very end of the hallway...kind of a walk but that's fine with me since it seems to be more quiet the further away you are from the elevator. Bathroom was also very nice...had marble floors, clean sink area & shower was nice as well. Everything in the bathroom seemed new...room also had ipod docking station which is nice
*Arcade & gambling - for families, there's an arcade area where you can play games and win tickets, which is something nice to do to keep you out of the harsh temperatures. There's also the rollercoaster but I hear it's expensive so we didn't give it a try. The slots are just ok here...they don't have some of the newer ones here & I think you'll have better luck playing in the daytime rather than at night.
*Restaurants - good selection of restaurants & lots of noisy fun; there's a section that's meant to look like the streets of NY with cheaper food options like pizza, fish & chips, sandwiches, etc. Also has two Starbucks, Haagen Das and sells Krispy Kreme doughnuts - if they had an in-n-out inside I would not have left the hotel. =) We tried the pizza place at about 1am...it was fantastic! Lots of restaurants and drinking to choose from as well - tried Gallagher's Steakhouse and thought food was excellent for the price. The Bar at Times Square has nightly rowdiness because of the piano bar - seemed like a lot of fun
*Easy access to...MGM & Excalibur. MGM has good restaurants & the monorail station that takes you northbound all the way to the Sahara. One ride is $5, one day is $12 - a good way for you to get to places like the Venetian, Paris, Harrah's & the Wynn. If you go to Excalibur, there's a free monorail ride to Luxor & Mandalay Bay; love the restaurants in Mandalay Bay too so I enjoyed the easy transportation to different parts of the strip.
The Not-So-Good:
*Blankets - the comforters & blankets on the bed are old and thin...would be nice to get something a bit more plush.
*Old box TV - why do hotels still have these? Everyone should upgrade to flat-screens.
*In-room safe did not work for us
*No sliding closet in the room...instead had a wooden wardrobe which housed the iron & ironing board. Not a big deal to me though.
*Not having the room I booked for me. I make a reservation for a reason - to have this particular room ready for me & when I check-in, it's not available? that's the reason we make reservations!
*A resort fee of 12.95 a day. The new trend is to charge resort fees...daily fees that include crap stuff that should already be included in the price of the hotel! Why not just bump up the price & include these imposed services in the room/hotel description. $12.95 is not bad compared to some other hotels & at least it includes internet access but we did not get the newspaper and I would have preferred bottles of water instead of cocktail vouchers.
Overall, I would stay here again. Like I said, the rates have lowered & it's a pretty good value for the hotel. With taxes, room rates and resort fee, it's probably $80-100 a night...& if you stay with other people it can be a pretty good deal. Get the pizza! =)
