| - I attend Globalfest every year, sometimes on multiple nights. Its a great evening to enjoy the end of the summer and a spectacular fireworks show. This year, I was invited to attend the finale with my boyfriends family. As we have done previous years, my bf and I decided to take the shuttle bus from Marlborough Mall. I personally find this to be the easiest way to get to Elliston Park, for $6 round trip you are dropped off & picked up in front of the park entrance. Last year, we drove and had to park quite far away (in a Safeway parking lot, no less) and with this being the finale, I didn't want to risk it. It was PACKED, and it probably didn't help that we arrived later than anticipated. The setup was pretty good, as usual...bathrooms were clean and well managed, great food selections, although we didn't make it over to the cultural pavilions this time which was a bummer. We found a spot on the far end near the stage and set up our blankets. We also had somewhat of a picnic as we brought a cooler of food. Before the show started, I wanted to get a hot chocolate so we ended up having to wait in quite a long line for it. The show was wonderful! Especially as it was the finale, where they have the freedom to do whatever they please. Absolutely stunning fireworks, and I got some great pictures. Afterwards was the long trek back to the other side, where the bus was to pick us up. The exit was a mess, completely bottlenecked with women pushing strollers up and down the hills just to pass people on the sidewalk. We ended up waiting for the buses for almost 20 minutes, as the police weren't allowing them on 17th Ave due to the uncontrollable crowd. We finally boarded and were back at the mall in no time. I thoroughly enjoy and will absolutely be attending Globalfest again next year!
