| - I'm picky about cake. Most American cake is just fluff; it doesn't have the body, the dense crumb that you see in, say, British cakes. Butterwood is legit! I went there with a friend who was deciding on a vendor for her wedding cake. Between us we tasted pretty much every cake they had on offer that day, and took the leftovers home in boxes. My friend has decided to go with Butterwood for her wedding cake - it was the best and most unique of all the places she tried.
All the cakes were excellent: good texture, good flavor, unique combinations of cake and buttercream. Note that in their nut buttercreams, the nut flavor is there but it's pretty delicate. So for example, in a salted caramel cashew buttercream, the salt, butter and caramel were the forward flavors, with a hint of cashew. Still delicious! We also tried one of the pudding cups, which was amazing.
I have also sat in here on a weekday and studied, with a piece of cake and a cup of tea to sustain me. It's pretty quiet in the middle of the day so I don't feel too bad about occupying a table, and it gives me time to finish one of those enormous slices of cake. :)
