  • We reserved our car online and got a good rate, I think we picked "mid size" car...the first car they gave us was a Chevy Cruz...the second was a VW Jetta. (See notes below as to why we had two cars). $150 for 4 days. Not too bad. We didn't struggle too much with finding the location of the rental place but we had pre-paid for everything with the car and they tried to add some additional charge of $60 to our bill. My husband noticed it right away and put up a stink, they said they'd remove the charge. They gave us the keys to our car and we went all the way out to the parking garage to find the car, the car STUNK to high heaven of cigarette smoke. I'm highly allergic so the smell made me upset as soon as I opened the door. We locked the car and made the journey back to the rent a car desk. She actually had the audacity to ARGUE with me saying no one had smoked in the car, yes, lady, they have and if I bring the car back and you then try to charge me the $225 cleaning fee you charge people who smoke in the car, I would have been even more upset. They gave us the keys to another car, they had to redo the paperwork and this bill had some other random charge added on to it as well. My husband crossed it off and said if he saw any charge other than what we had already paid on his statement he would be disputing the whole thing. They assured him it wouldn't show up. The 2nd car looked like it had been to war and had scratches and dings all over it, but it at least didn't smell like an ash tray. I highly recommend if you plan on renting from Avis, you pre-book it because the prices at the desk are OUTRAGEOUS. We had a 40% off coupon online which made our rate pretty good, in person we would have paid double. Ridiculous. All in all, since we stayed at the Aria and had complimentary airport transfers the convenience was good...otherwise we would have just rented from the airport again, they were a lot nicer there.
