My boyfriend and I have recently moved to Charlotte and he wanted to plan our first official date night. After doing some research and receiving recommendations from co-workers, he decided on Block and Grinder. We were very excited to try this as it had great reviews and 99% of their products come from North Carolina - making this a true Farm-to-Table style restaurant.
We started with the deviled eggs as we were told they were one of the most popular apps on the menu. I love eggs any way you cook them so I knew regardless I would enjoy them. My only gripe with the eggs was that the menu states they are made with goat cheese (yummm) - I could not taste any goat cheese, but instead an overwhelming amount of truffle oil. But, as I mentioned before, I still enjoyed them nonetheless.
For dinner, I ordered the Filet Mignon medium rare Au Poivre style and it was absolutely fantastic. My boyfriend ordered the bone-in Ribeye which was also very good, but even he admitted that mine was better and when we come back that is what he would order (as would I because it was so delicious). We also happened to go on a night where all wine bottles under $60 were half price, so not only did we have delicious, melt-in-your-mouth steaks, but we also had sophisticated wine to pair with them.
Service was exceptional as well. Our server Chris was excellent. Once we informed him that this was our first time dining there he gave us a run down of the entire menu and also some interesting facts about the restaurant. He also gave us several recommendations of other food places we need to try as we are very new to the area and have not had the chance to discover all the "hidden gems" here.
I have already recommended this restaurant to many and cannot wait to go back.
