  • For all Yelpers looking to rent in the Squirrel hill/Pittsburgh area, beware of this management company! For the time we have been with them, they only cared about milking every cent out of you and provided nothing a decent landlord should. Many reasons to stay away: 1. They charge an exorbitant amount of lock-out fee, $100 to open the door even during business hours. 2. The plumbing is a disaster in the building. Toilet fails to flush on a monthly basis and needs declogged, happens even when we avoid flushing toilet paper completely. 3. The radiator does not give enough heat in the winter. It's old fashioned water-heated system. We had many days of 40-50 degrees in the house! When we called them about this unlivable situation, their reply was "we are busy fixing many apartments during this time and we will get to it." They never bothered to come and check our heater. 4. They never answer your calls or email requests. But they sure are fast to penalize you for late rent, even when you sent them on time! I had to protest and demand their accountant to recheck the dates on the check to prove I was not late. No apologies after they found it was their fault. 5. Rat infestation in the building. One day we found a rat on our bed in the morning. Totally grossed out and we decided to move. 6. Very shady on our move out. I asked their agent to do a walk through after we cleaned out but she made excuses not to show up. They run through their little "checklists" when you are not there so they can nickle-and-dime you for whatever they want. Don't even think about getting your full deposit back, no way. 7. They charge $200 if floors not "professionally cleaned". They would not tell me which company they use to clean floors if tenants do not do it. Clearly they want to squeeze that extra $200 from you on your move out. Finally I was able to get a local cleaner to do the wood floors for $80. He said the floor condition was in good shape and did not really need to be cleaned. I'm sure E&J never cleans the floors themselves and makes an easy $200 all the time when people move. If you see any E&J managed property, I'd strongly advise you to run away. Fast.
