| - Brought in my 2013 VW Beetle for a routine oil change last month. Within a couple of days I was hearing a rattle under the hood. I went back and let them know what I was hearing and told them the noise started after my oil change. After having my car the whole day I was advised that my cooling fan was giving out. I asked the service advisor if that was typical of a 2013 Beetle with under 60k, he assured me that it was. The manager went as far as showing me where the fan was broken and confirmed they have a dedicated VW technician that had diagnosed my car. He warned me that it could go out at any minute.
I took my car home and called a few VW shops, they all told me that it was absolutely not typical. Since the rattling hadn't stopped, I took it in to one of the VW shops I called.
Within a few hours they found the problem, it wasn't my fan, which was in perfect working order, there was a cap that was circling around in my fan! The shop charged me 1/2 hour of service to remove a cap cover that belongs in my car that must've been knocked over when AAA Auto did my oil change. SMH.
To recap, AAA did my oil change, knocked a cap into my fan, lied to me & said it's typical, visually pointed out where my fan was "broken", scared me into thinking my car could break down at any minute and wasted 3 full days of mine.
I obviously called AAA back and let them know exactly what happened. The manager was honorable enough to apologize, refund what I paid at VW and also refund my oil change. While I commend them for doing something most companies wouldn't, the bad experience still happened, I was still lied to and my time still wasted. I will never trust this shop again and will continue to let people know about my experience there.
