So I'm a cosplayer and I adore comic con, in fact it is the one time of the year that I look forward to because WW is the biggest in Vegas (Amazing Las Vegas is a bit smaller). Wizard World Comic Con has everything that a geeky person could ever want in regards to shopping, cosplay, gaming, and geekery but it's not just about that. Wizard World Comic Con is about family and meeting like-minded people and you do that here in spades. This is a place where when you tell a Firefly joke people get it, When you say "your princess is in another castle" people understand. This is a place where you can feel "cool" and unjudged about being yourself. Wizard World Comic Con is a place where you can be someone else for an entire day or a weekend. If you want to be Nathan Drake for a day feel free, how about Lara Croft or Spiderman? Do it!!!!
Wizard World specializes in bringing big name stars to meet fans and it does a very good job at that in fact we just had Jewel Staite (love her so much!) from Firefly! The stars are cool and the autographs are pretty well priced (Jewel's was 40 but she was the only one I got). There are costume contests and prizes for winning those contests. There are panels and this year we even had a speed dating room to help fellow geeks possibly meet their geeky other half. Now sadly with all the good of WW there is some bad stuff hence why I deducted a star on this review. So for some reason the staff is always rude when I come to Wizard World. In fact it seems as when they hire the staff they hire people who don't understand the culture. Frequently whilst walking around I noticed staff accosting cosplayers or being downright rude. When I met Jewel Staite one of the staff members took my Firefly comic and literally bent it in half. The thing about that comic is that it is extremely rare hence why I wanted it signed by Jewel. Only after I told her not to bend it because of it's value did she stop. When she stopped she then threw the comic on the signing table. Thankfully my comic wasn't ruined but still very unprofessional.
Jewel was the highlight of Wizard World this year and she actually talked to me for a good 5 minutes holding up the line. She joked with me and was extremely nice and loved my Malcolm Reynolds cosplay. Because she was so nice I walked back up to her booth to thank her at the end of the day for the autograph (I usually thank all actors who have been particularly nice). The volunteer went to her booth and asked the staff member who just rudely yelled saying NO!. I just told her that I didn't want to take Jewel's time but to just thank her and Jewel had no idea I was even there. The staff member just glared at me and went "I SAID NO WE ARE CLEANING UP!!!!!". I just left and was happy with the experience of meeting Jewel (the autograph is in my Firefly display.....well shrine lol) and didn't take it personally. The con is a great con and I mean a great con but they need better staff. The staff is rude and downright disrespectful. The volunteers however were great and I mean great!!!!! In fact one volunteer went out of her way to help me when she didn't have to. Great volunteers, horrible staff.
****On a sad update note I heard from a fellow cosplayer and friend that Wizard World may not be coming back next year. This is just a rumor and I just heard this from a friend but I am very saddened if this rumor is true. I hope not because despite some issues, this comic con is the best in the city. This con is even better than our local comic con.
