The Village Grocer is great!
I come here almost on a weekly basis for the bakery. The muffins are moist and naturally tasty--they're huge and jam packed with the promised fillings and flavours. My favourite is the mixed berry. The strudels are flakey and sweet. The sugar cookies are beautifully decorated. They also have the best red velvet cake in town. The pumpkin coffee cake is a family favourite over Thanksgiving. But hands down, their jelly rolls are to die for!
However, I find that the grocery items are generally overpriced and lacking selection. The shelves are stocked with more interesting, specialty items than things one would buy for everyday purposes. With that said, their house-made oven roasted turkey breast is fantastic and the sandwiches and coffees they make in the cafe section are even better. I only wish the cafe were open and stocked for longer. I often see shoppers come in and stand in front of the cafe, at a loss for why it's not open or why there is nothing left. I have often found myself thinking at around 5pm that a sandwich from the cafe here would be a good, quick, and light dinner option, but of course, they close at 3 and are out of stock sometimes far before then, which is really too bad.
