| - I would not recommend using either Peter or Jenny under any circumstances.
My partner and I have income from two different countries and sought Peter's help with our taxes. We had our accountant in the other country do our taxes there and needed some help with our Canadian paperwork.
On our first visit, we were surprised to see that Peter works out of his living room, but were compelled to use his services because we like to support small businesses. Peter told us that he was basically already done with our taxes and that he simply needed to plug in a few more numbers, which shouldn't be an issue. We were excited at the prospect of having our taxes done by someone who seemed so convinced that the process would be simple.
A month and a half passed with no word from Peter or any of his associates. After multiple emails and voicemails I finally reached someone. I asked when we could pick up our paperwork since everything was due the next week. He condescendingly told me that they were having staffing issues and couldn't give me a pick up date. I asked if our taxes would be done on time and he said, "don't you think we would have told you if they wouldn't have been done in time?" He told me someone would call me with more information about the status of our paperwork.
Again, we had no contact from Peter or his associates. A few days before everything was due, we again called and emailed with no response. The day before taxes were due, I emailed Peter and asked if I could pick everything up the evening when everything was due. I received a response saying that everything was done and that the time was fine.
The next day, after a long day at work, I took the subway to pick everything up. When I got off the subway, minutes before our scheduled pick up time, I had a voicemail that said our taxes weren't done and they were going to have to reschedule. My partner was already there, so I went to the office anyway to see what was going on.
When I got there, I was told that my Canadian forms were basically done, but the international forms were going to take awhile. This came as a surprise since Peter didn't even have my proper international paperwork and I had given him information from completed international tax forms. I explained, again, that my international forms had been completed months prior. At that point, Jenny and another man left the room for an extended period of time saying that they were going to print our Canadian forms so they could be sent off. I suspect they were actually filling out our Canadian forms while we sat there.
While Jenny and the other man were gone, Peter stumbled in the room with his pants completely undone. My partner and I were both shocked, but Peter just kind of nonchalantly stumbled away.
Eventually, Jenny returned and showed us our tax forms. Unfortunately, a few key forms we were paying to have completed had not been done. We expressed our concern to Jenny who told us we should just go to H&R Block (seriously?). We asked how long it would take to fill out the paperwork (the entire reason we had sought Peter's services) and were told that it would be at least two months. Knowing that we were getting nowhere with Jenny, we begrudgingly paid for the forms that had been completed and were hurried out of the office.
About an hour later I was able to sit down and go line by line through the paperwork, which I hadn't been able to do in the office because they'd been pushing us out the door. My forms were completely incorrect and my partner's had multiple errors. After all that, I had to spend hours on the phone with Revenue Canada to correct the issues.
