I just moved to Las Vegas from California and Mojave is the assigned school for our area. I have a freshman and a senior starting here. Our first contact with this school was about a week before school began. We arrived before 8 a.m. in hopes of shortening our wait time. We were given #10 and had a seat in the waiting area. An hour after not hearing one number called I went to the secretary and asked how much longer it would be, she informed me that my number had been passed. I told her that was impossible because I had not heard any numbers called. she sensed a complaint coming from me and rudely cut me off. she then told me I would have to stand next to the counselors door and wait for her to finish with the parent she had in her office already. when it was almost my turn another parent came up with a lower number than mine who was also skipped. I let the parent go ahead of me and continued to stand next to door and wait. Finally we get into the counselors office, (Barbara) my first impression was chaos. There were registration files pilled in unorganized stacks on her desk. Piles and piles of paperwork on chairs, desks, and yes even the floor. My immediate concern was that my children's paperwork was going to get lost in the mess. Once we sat and started speaking to her we quickly realized why the office was in such chaos. She was a nice lady but she was definitely in way over her head. she found it hard to focus and was jumping back and forth between children she was registering. She repeatedly answered the phone and trailed off into different task while we waited in front of her. At one point she answered the phone and completely started helping someone else for 15 minutes while we waited in front of her. The other staff in the office seemed to follow in her footsteps. the secretary continuously interrupted and asked for things she apparently could not do herself. One female counselor came in while she was on the phone and repeatedly started calling her name over and over again while she was talking. (Barbara, where are the maps?) over and over again. I have never seen anything so unprofessional in my life. When she finally got off the phone I stopped her. I explained to her that I realized that they were swamped with work but that I had been there for over two hours and would appreciate it if she could focus for a couple minutes because I had other things to do. She let me know that she would request my students transcripts and call me within a couple days to let me have their student ID's so that they could get on the bus. I knew she was going to forget my children so I contacted their old schools myself and gave them the fax number to the school and asked them to send their records. I called Barbara 3 times throughout the week and aside from my efforts they were not enrolled. we showed up on the first day of school and had to get another number with parents that were barely enrolling their children i told three people there that I had already been here and completed this process; however they made me wait another 2 hours to see another counselor who told us our children were enrolled. she sent them to a class where guess what?! they weren't.... my children had to pick there classes all over again because they are so unorganized they did not know where any of there paperwork was. My poor kids. They still have not received any information on the bus and are not in the system yet. And as if things weren't already bad I went to pick them up and seen a group of around 10 kids at the corner of the school acting like they were going to push a motorcyclist off his bike. When the motorcyclist pulled over they acted like they were going to attack him. It was scary! I can not bare to send my children back to this school and it is only the second day.
