  • Came here to the emergency area for a family member needing medical help. Humber River Hospital was recommended to us as it is a new hospital (opened in Oct 2015) and meant that service would be much quicker. They have some of the worst people who work here at front line emergency operations. This hospital is all about being patient oriented but I did not see much of this at all in the way their workers present themselves to the public. I spoke to a lady at a desk and explained to her the situation that got us to humber river hospital, and she tells me in rough russian/ukrainian accent "That's emergency, what do you want me to do about it?" Apparently I was in the triage area. Afterwards I was explained to by the same lady that I had to first go to patient registration and how to get there. The next people I spoke to at the patient registration and the o-zone area were consistently apathetic and hostile. We waited for about 5 hours in the o-zone waiting area for the surgeon to come speak with us. We don't mind waiting if it is a reasonable wait. It would be really nice if the nurses and staff would keep us updated...for some time I thought they had forgotten us. The nurse didnt change the empty IV bag that was attached to my family member, after an hour and a half had passed. When we periodically asked them what we were waiting for we received the same answer each time, "we are waiting on the surgeon, we don't know where he is or when he will come down to speak with you". This is not the type of response someone in need of medical help wants to receive. They act like bigshots to people who want to receive medical help, and they use this power to oppress the needy. After being admitted to the hospital the experience slightly better. The nurses on the surgical unit are much nicer than the staff at the emergency and O zone area. Its really too bad there is such a disparity in the way service is delivered even in a newly created hospital that boasts on their focus on patients. But at the same time this area also suffers badly from long wait times. All staff on this floor cannot provide a day or time of when operation will start simply because we are on the emergency waitlist (does that make any sense?) Anyway, other than the subpar service from emerg, I would have to say this hospital is beautiful! All of their tech equipment is brand spanking new, rooms are very clean and spacious. There is a very spacious food court in the basement floor with vendors like pizzaville, paramount, tim hortons, and cultures. As well as a very nice outdoor patio.
