| - I really hate to only give them 3 stars, but it's gotta be done. I don't generally drop $200+ on one dinner, so I expect it to be "Holy crap that was awesome"... and this wasn't.
This is a beautiful restaurant, let's get that out there. Very impressive and elegant.
The pool area was closed, so we were seated in the 2nd level interior area. The place was cacophonous, between the other diners and the LOUD music; I work in a nightclub, and I was using my work voice just so my other half could hear me. There were a ridiculous number of staff and managers about; it felt as though someone was always hovering nearby. Not very relaxing.
Our server seemed like he was burnt out of his job. He brought the wrong bottle of wine, and was visibly irritated when I pointed it out. My filet and OH's strip were both requested medium rare; mine came out raw and bloody, and again when we pointed this out, our server lectured me on "Well, yours is a thicker cut". Ok, so cook it longer? That doesn't change what "medium rare" should be. He cooked it up, but by that point it was charred so badly it had no taste left.
The prices are fair for a high end steakhouse, but I was a little floored at $76 for the 'add-on' surf and turf to OH's steak. It was one very small lobster tail and 4 crab legs. Definitely overpriced.
They did bring out a piece of cake for OH's birthday, though it tasted like Frys bakery cake, and we weren't offered coffee or a dessert menu at all otherwise.
We will be trying Mastro's next time.
PS to management: We already let someone know, but we were very impressed with the server assistant named Riley. He is the kind of guy who should be a server, super helpful and great personality.
