| - This was my first apartment, so I was a little worried about ending up in some horrible place because of all the bad reviews you see around the internet. I learned that basically you have to take every review you read with a grain of salt and realize that the few people who had negative experiences are much more motivated to write a review, and those people are often the cause of the conflict themselves.
Pros:
I have lived here for about 4 months now, and it has been pretty good. Anytime there is a maintenance issue they come fix it right away. The only time I ever hear my neighbor is when I'm in the bathroom (I guess the bathroom shares a wall with the neighbor). I rarely see anyone outside, no one bothers us, however I don't go outside much myself lol. The price is great, I got an apartment on the third floor, so it was only $705 a month, not counting utilities. The office workers and maintenance workers are nice. The layout is great. The bathroom is separate from the bedroom, so people don't have to walk through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. I always thought that design was stupid. The kitchen is big, has a gas stove and built-in microwave, and doesn't have that counter in the middle of the room, so there's a big, wide-open space for the kitchen and living room. The buildings are new, so nothing is falling apart yet. The office is open late.
Location:
The location is decent depending on where you need to go. I go to UNLV, so I wanted somewhere somewhat close, without being in the ghetto surrounding UNLV. This apartment complex is around 15-20 minutes away from UNLV, which was decent, but the surrounding area doesn't look too nice. The houses immediately to the north are old and run down, and a visitor once described the complex as "living in a hole". As in you go down a ramp to get to the complex, and there is nothing around it except dirt, run down houses, a stormwater channel, and a highway. I sometimes see homeless people walking through the stormwater channel and in front of the apartment complex. After driving around my new area, I realized the area around the galleria palms apartments is much nicer, and I am looking there for my next lease.
Cons:
This will be different depending on which floor you live, but living on the third floor is not fun. We thought it would be good since we won't have to hear footsteps above us, and we'll be farther away from people outside and bugs. But obviously you have to walk up and down two flights of stairs every time you want to go in or out. And there were two problems with living on the third floor that I didn't expect. One is the sunlight really shines through and heats up the apartment in the summer. It'll be 77 degrees around the air conditioner, and maybe 85 degrees at my window. And the other is the wind. It is November now and recently I have been hearing very loud wind outside, sometimes all night. It is pretty ridiculous how loud it is, as you would never even expect wind noise to be an issue. I hear it right now actually. Another con is living right next to the highway. You have to hear cars driving constantly, but you get used to it after a little while. At this price range you can expect to be around some "low income" people. I sometimes smell weed while walking up to my apartment.
Bottom Line:
Living here isn't so bad, it's not a "horror story" like you see in some apartment reviews. Basically these apartments are great on the inside, and not so great on the outside. I would not recommend living here, since you can get a better area for the same price. Personally I will be looking south of here for my next apartment, around Whitney Ranch and Sunset. And I will be on the second floor or maybe even first floor this time. I would only live here if you needed to be in the area right away and the other apartments in the area I described were full (which was basically our situation).
