| - For a birthday occasion we ordered a cake from them. I needed the cake for the weekend, and I ordered on Tuesday evening. The timing was perfect. The cake ordered was a 5" Strawberry Yuzu, definitely more than enough for 4 people. I went in not knowing what flavour I wanted to order, as my mom was not a fan of overly sweet cakes, and my only experience with this shop was their Chocolate Earl Grey cake (which I will talk about later). I explained to the staff what I was looking for, and they were really quick with making recommendations, with a fairly decent attitude. I am a person who likes to get things done quick, so this was a plus for me. When ordering the cake, you are supposed to pay for the cake prior to the pick up day. But the day I visited them, the entire Times Square Plaza had no electricity, and I had no cash on hand. So they were nice about it, and allowed me to pay on the day of pickup.
Flavour of the cake was exactly as the staff mentioned: not too sweet, and a very 'clean' taste. My mom loved it, and it was so pretty.
Back to the Chocolate Early Grey cake, my friend's boyfriend bought it for her birthday, and it was my first experience with Ruelo. The chocolate was so rich, and you can definitely taste the Early Grey in the cake. If you are a chocolate lover, this is the perfect cake for you (given that you enjoy tea as well). The chocolate mousse used complemented, if not emphasized the Early Grey in the cake.
The cakes are moist, but they hold together really well. Presentation is simple, and that's something I appreciate. The price you are paying is definitely a little more, personally I don't mind for special occasions. I can't wait to try more flavours.
