My first Yelp review. I am just so confused by my stay here. We only stayed for one night and were on a tight schedule during our trip, so we really didn't have time to adequately voice our concerns. Still, these are concerns.
The negative: Our room was NOT as advertised. The floor plan and pictures we were shown upon booking an upgraded suite featured a 2+ person sitting/television area separate from the sleeping area. The room we were placed in was a standard hotel room; TV across from the bed, desk, single chair, cramped little bathroom. Very few of the fixtures were in working order. The frame for the pocket door leading to the bathroom was entirely unfinished; there was nothing but raw wood where there should've been the second half of the door. The bathroom door wouldn't shut.
We also had a miserable time with late night room service. Our original order came to our door prepared wrong to the point of inedibility. The replacement meal had a thick black hair baked into it, but it had been over an hour since we placed our original order at this point and we had to be up early so we just fell asleep hungry and ate the $50 cost of a dinner never eaten.
The positive: Everything else! Never before have I dealt with such a universally courteous staff. The bell desk supervisor we dealt with during our stay was smart, capable, and approachable. Valets lent a hand without us even noticing. All three bartenders who served us were fun and capable.
The common areas were all beautifully decorated. Save for the egregious branded signage everywhere, it felt like the kind of place an action movie would film their fancy undercover mission.
I would definitely come back to the One King West for my next trip to Toronto... But I'd make sure to leave time in my itinerary to advocate for the style of room I paid for and avoid anything from the hotel kitchens.
