| - Growing up in Northeast Ohio, I attribute my skill at computers and love of Legos to the 182 days where the weather drives you indoors looking for something to do.
Well, peoples of the 216/330/440 area codes, you have a new outlet for your inside energy - High Voltage Indoor Karting.
You can read more back story on their webpage, but the parts they don't tell you are that two local guys got together with a dream of opening an indoor go-kart place like one they saw in Florida, so they bought a 100+ year old shuttered factory here in NEO and spent what must be a ton of money to be a first class experience.
Let's start with the carts. These are not the old noisy smelly lawnmower gasoline engines that you used to race on vacation in Gatlinburg, TN. HVIK has imported ELECTRIC racing machines that provide instant torque when you hit the "gas". The Race Manager control the power available via wireless - so when the yellow flag goes up, all carts slow to a snail pace. When they hit Power Level 4, you honestly cannot keep the pedal floored anymore without running into a wall barrier. These carts are wicked fast.
Everything is new, which means new helmets too. One nice feature is that when you get your drivers license, you get a racing headsock.
There are plenty of places to watch the races. There are video games and a pool table. My understanding is that there is a concession stand (it wasn't open for the grand opening I attended). There are also two private Event rooms. I wouldn't hesitate to hold a business meeting here during the day. Nothing like taking out your frustrations on a coworker or customer with a few bumps on the racetrack!
At the end of a 7 minute, ten car race, everyone gets a printout of the results: fastest lap, average lap, laps completed and penalties assessed for bad behavior LOL!
If I had HVIK when I was growing up, who knows maybe I would have become a NASCAR racer instead of a traveling sales engineer who Yelps for his next meal :)
