| - I was so surprised to see that this place didn't have 4.5-5 stars on yelp. I did a quick skim, and it seems like most of the negative reviews are for the Americanized menu. Don't come here for that! I love me some good comforting General Tso's, but as far as I'm concerned, these people wanted to open an authentic sichuan restaurant but didn't want to exclude the majority of Pittsburgh's population and had to offer Americanized food they don't particularly care about.
But the Sichuan menu... This is THE place in this half the state to get authentic Chinese food. Even my mom approves of this place. The food comes quick, though there is often a wait crowding the door on weekend dinner hours and service can get inattentive at those times. It's a hit with all the international students, so you KNOW it's good. All my favorite Sichuan dishes (shui zhu yu, garlic eggplant, yu xiang rou si, fu qi fei pian, dried green beans, spicy beef noodle soup, etc) are all top notch here. The right balance of good flavor and that nasty spicy kick that I have such a love-hate relationship with. We've also never gone wrong with anything else we've tried off of the authentic menu. The prices are very reasonable for Pittsburgh, too. The 'burgh has been missing a place like this, and How Lee definitely rose to the occasion.
