I should start by saying that I have thick, curly hair. Hair that, I've learned, requires the utmost respect and knowledge, or it will punish me by being indefinitely terrible.
As my regular hair dresser was away on vacation and my funds were low, I decided to take a chance on a cheaper salon.
1. Enter salon. Ask for cut. All is going well.
2. Get hair washed. Good. Very thorough washing continues for 15 minutes until scalp is starting to hurt. Not sure whether to comment or not.
3. I tell the stylist I would like a trim and show her a picture of my last haircut for reference. She nods.
4. She starts lopping off my hair. Good. She starts using thinning shears. BAD. I try to explain that they make my hair frizzy and sparse. She nods and keeps going anyway.
5. Enter panic attack. Knees go numb. I'm feeling faint and very ill.
6. She starts cutting it much shorter in the front than the back--the direct reversal of my previous cut. I try to stop her. She tells me that I'm too picky.
7. I mention that I want bangs. She gives me bangs. Good.
8. I ask her not to blow dry. She blow dries anyway.
9. I give up.
10. She gets paid. I leave, go home and cry.
I want to say that someone with a different hair type might have a completely different experience than I did. I was particularly upset by how dismissive she was of my requests. I understand that the customer isn't always right, but I do know my hair. This place might seem like a great bargain to you, but I'm certainly never going back.
