| - I haven't been to this boutique in almost two years so I should qualify this review by saying it may not be current.
The location is very convenient, on an upscale, but relatively accessible stretch of Yonge Street, near cafes, restaurants, between the Rosedale and Summerhill subway stations.
The selection is well-edited and I always find a cute tee, jeans or dress. The merchandise is current and the store itself is located in an airy, lovely space. However, it's not like you'll find any avant garde or unique pieces. Most of the selection can be found in the contemporary department of Holt Renfrew, which has a much better return policy. However, NYLA has done a good job of narrowing down the options.
My only complaint is the attitude of the staff, more specifically the owner. Many of the sales associates are sweet, lovely and helpful. However, the owner (Andrea, I think?) displays a cold, snotty attitude, never smiles and makes me feel uncomfortable. It's incongruous with the merchandise. NYLA carries lines like James Perse for goodness sake, not Valentino! A few of my friends have also mentioned this issue. To illustrate, one time I was wearing jeans that admittedly were a several seasons old, but haha, they made my butt look good. Anyway, she made a snide remark to me like "Oh, you must reeaaallly like those jeans."
Overall, I would recommend this store if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a cute, little splurge. However, I wouldn't go out of my way for this boutique as most of the lines are carried elsewhere. Just keep in mind that if you encounter a snobby attitude, it's them, not you!
