| - Heard that Caesars had spent a buttload to redo their buffet, and heard it was the best one going. I used to try and hit the Bellagio buffet on trips in recent years, but have slacked off of buffets mostly. Last one I tried was Wicked Spoon last year, reviewed it, won't rehash it.
Got a friend who lives in Vegas, decided to hit the buffet around 8:30 on a Saturday night. Two other friends on the trip bailed. About 4:30 I walked over to find out where it was, and at that time the line was full, which I figured in quick non scientific terms, looked like there had to be 150-200 people in line. At that point I hoped it wouldn't be as bad later that night and left.
I was right, because when I got back there close to agreed to time, there had to be at LEAST 40 less people in line, which quickly filled back to full. I checked with my friend to see what he thought, we decided to see what it was like and decide to possibly go elsewhere when he got there.
In the meantime, I noticed next to the "invited guest" line there was a sign that said "line pass $15". That line usually had no one in it. I figured, I'm on vacation, I'll fork the $15 over, because otherwise, ain't no way I'm standing in what I see is a possible two hour line.
Friend gets there, he agrees, so away we go, walking past a ton of people and get up to pay, fork over about $64 and get seated within about 5 minutes. Hey folks, maybe it's just me, but vacation or not, I can't think of anything I'm waiting in line two hours for, but it sure ain't gonna be somewhere to eat. The people in line are nuts. (Looking back on it, I should have flipped the bird to everyone while I was walking past them, to get my $15 worth)
The different stations are nice, breaks up things a bit. The meat carving station was where I got most stuff, ribs were okay, dry, after all, this really isn't the place to get BBQ. The sausage looked great, but was told it was chicken, and the only kind they had. Chicken? Really? Whatever, but it sure didn't taste like pork or beef. The tomahawk Ribeye was good.
Some small plating food, like Wicked Spoon, good idea, had some great shrimp grits. Huge boiled peeled shrimp was really good.Crab croquettes were really good.
Asparagus was good, think potato pancakes were good. Crab legs were good, I got cold ones, I'm easy. I avoided the mexican and italian stations mostly, got a little premade pasta, not the best. Got some dim sum pork buns, pretty good, had some dumplings and a chicken dish that was good.
The dessert station was big, but didn't seem as good as I expected. Good bread pudding, but the bananas being used in the bananas fosters didn't seem ripe enough. The small dish tiramisu was good and a couple of other things, but gelato is pretty well the same everywhere. If you're a crepe fan, you can get fresh ones made.
I didn't really use any of the made fresh at the stations, so I can't comment, but overall, to me, this buffet is better than Bellagio and a little more so than Wicked Spoon. Price is crazy, but hey, you're on vacation...in Vegas, so who cares?
