| - Dr. Kolade moved to Cal Psychiatric Services on Maryland Parkway. I was referred to him through my insurance company. This doctor takes care of Autistic children, so I was surprised when we walked in and the TV was on BLASTING. If you are not familiar with autism, loud noises can be uncomfortable for those who suffer from it, and may bring on a meltdown. Next a family came in with four children and the children were running around the small waiting room and their guardian did nothing to control them. The woman at the front counter was very very very rude. She said that we owed approximately $100 more than we did. She said she called my insurance company, and I told her she had to go through my husbands union to get the correct information, she didn't want to call, but finally did. I will give her credit though, sometimes the union was a little slow answering the phone. When I was called back I was weighed and my blood pressure taken. I spoke the a really nice guy, who turned out being a student of Touro University (the only high point of my visit), who took down information and asked me why I was there. I told him the story and started crying, the reason for my tears was not due to my issue, but was due to the fact that my mother is dying and I have been taking care of her and hadn't slept in 72 hours. I didn't even get to tell him this, because before I was done Dr. Kolade walked in.
Dr. Kolade has a very thick accent and is very hard to understand. My husband was in the room with me and we both heard him say that I was 80 years old. Now, I am only 57, and although I do have grey hair, I don't think anyone would ever assume I was 80 years old. I won't go into the rest of the visit, but let's just say I was less than impressed.
I called the union to straighten this out, not only for this visit but for future visits to other practitioners. The union representative called their office and she was also treated very rudely, and the same office worker gave her an attitude. It turns out that I owe a substantial amount less (maybe even less than the union said) and cancelled my appointment and told them to send me a bill.
Horrible experience during a time when I am looking for assistance. I guess these office workers feel they can treat people horribly because there is such a shortage of psychiatrists in town, but that is just a guess on my part.
